During this trip, we visited many new places including Nagoya.
Nagoya is a relatively new town which developed from the wealth generated by the nearby Toyota factory. It is not far from Tokyo and yet we had not visited yet.
This time, we were determined to try two places:
A hitsumabushi (unagi) restaurant called Shirakawa (Japan, 〒451-0046 Aichi, Nagoya, Nishi Ward, Ushijimacho, 6−24 名古屋 1F CUBE アクロス)
Which, as well as being delicious, it was most interesting. In Nagoya, you are presented with a bowl of unagi on rice which you must divide in 4. The first quarter, you enjoy as served. The second you add some toppings (wasabi, spring onions and soy sauce). The third is like the second, plus katsuobushi dashi ( bonito soup presented to you-on demand- just before you are about to test this way). Then, for the forth, you choose your favourite and repeat.
It was delicious, and came accompanied with several small dishes including an unagi tamagoyaki (eel omelette) which was also delicious.
And a Taiwanese canteen nearby the station called Misen Meieki Shop (4 Chome-17-4 Meieki, Nakamura Ward, Nagoya, Aichi 450-0002, Japan) where you can find delicious Dan Dan men (spicy noodles with mince meat), spinach with garlic, meat balls, dumplings and fried rice... (check the last 4 pictures of this post)
The Taiwanese canteen is low key, loud and vibrant like the food they serve which is delicious. We learned about it through a you tuber my husband follows and what a discovery it was!
Word of advice.. the food is spicy. Very. So long as you like this, you will be fine
