Pasaia

If you visit San Sebastian, there is a very pretty walk from mountain Ulia to the faro de la plata (behind the hill on the left) which if continued, takes you to Pasaia harbour.

When I was little we used to do that walk a lot... Another thing we used to do was to hire the boat which connects both side to take us out to the sea... At the time there were several boats going back and forth between the two sides and mom always knew when to arrange this kind of adventures. And how fabulous those adventures were.

The harbour has another side. It has a working harbour to bring materials and goods in and out of the country.
When I was a child, i loved the contrast between the two sides. The scale, smells (metal Vs fish boxes) the noise (shouting Vs clinking )

Pasaia is the harbour outside San Sebastian where fishermen lived and where boats like my grandfather's used to moore.

It is also the place Victor Hugo used as a retreat to write. ( In the building to the right of the boat crossing)
Nowadays it is many other things too including, unfortunately, the place of arrival of those big monster cruise ships with people who want to visit San Sebastian for lunch.

Ignoring this, I would like to recommend you pop by and visit because as well as a beautiful place, among other things, you could have a delicious grilled fish at Cámara or Txulotxo overlooking the water...which really is a luxury.
