The Murray street/ Agar Grove area saw the first teams move in to get the site ready for the temporary pedestrian bridge (that only opened mid November) back in May. They then blocked the pavement -cutting pedestrian routes- and reduced the traffic lanes between then and the end of November.
Finally, just before Christmas, works to replace the actual bridge over the railway commenced closing the entire junction (including the temporary pedestrian bridge) bringing total chaos to the community who suddenly were cut off from their immediate areas.
The peak of the project arrived on the 21st of December when the bridge demolition started followed by its rebuilding over Christmas.
We were not allowed to get close to it but despite this, BAM provided us with daily entertainment courtesy of two YT accounts that took upon themselves to record the daily progress with their drones. After working day and night, the new bridge was opened in just 9 days (not entirely but for trains to travel underneath it).
When compared to the chaos that surrounded the rest of the project, the consensus is that at least, that part of the work seems to have gone rather smoothly.
(If your are interested, go to YT and search Agar Grove bridge.)
Watching the videos (which I shared with quite a few people) my mum asked that I look at the edge of the bridge to see whether the new finished floor level of the bridge aligns with the existing road.
And as I took this photo, i noticed that the temporary access for the team on site bridging over the trench is in fact at an angle. So I too am curious 🧐.
Next door there is a project that CZWG designed (behind the crane) in a piece of land adjacent to the bridge with a section of it extending over it. The tenants saw their garden being destroyed to make way to the bridge (they were evacuated during the actual bridge construction) and a change of level would impact those on the lower ground floor. And hence I will be watching with interest.
Now they need to remove temporary works, close trenches, refinish the road and rebuild that garden wall and garden.
