For an entirety different reason, I enjoyed our visit to the office of Paul Mcaneary, which is right opposite a building I love- one of the former workshops from where the West End stage backdrops were hand painted ,once upon a time.
The office has now been open for a while and it was interesting to see the practical modifications they have taken place to suit their every day as a working studio.
It was also interesting to be shown the experimental side of their own refurbishment process which is far from the sleek front one would imagine when looking at their work and also to be explained the exploratory aspect of their selection of materials.
This ,I found, was a refreshing way to show how Architects work and one only we tend to know about in this times of Instagram and pinterest curation .
It is also useful to those non architects visiting because the process allows them to get into the architects mind and debunk the "know it all image" our profession has developed over the years.
