Even the most aware humans have blindspots and despite the opportunities presented to us by social media and technology, there will be things we are destined to never find out or experience.⠀

This is why I feel an obligation to learn as much as I can and to be present every time something unveils I'm front of me. ⠀

Last week, for example, I just met @tarkoulis when we heard chanting coming from nearby #oxfordstreet. And so before having a great catch up, we followed the voices and watched something I had never seen before.⠀

The photo does not capture what we saw...in fact, I have no idea what we saw... But it was almost hypnotic. Most people felt compelled to stop and watch as these two people chanted and danced to the drums.⠀

Then something uncomfortable happened.⠀
Three Italian young girls came running and one ,in a very embarrassing and ignorant manner, started mocking the man who was dancing and chanting while the other two recorded it and laughed.⠀

It was painful and embarrassing. Embarrassing because their ignorance was of 1980s scale but it is 2020 ! Furthermore, it showed how important education is and how vital it is to be exposed to other cultures in order to become a better human.⠀

I know it will sound dramatic but as much as people are talking about what the UK will loose when leaving Europe, what saddens me about Brexit is that the UK brings to the European table a lesson on diversity ... One from which mono cultures were beginning to learn... without the UK to normalise diversity , Europe could easily go backwards . I hope to be wrong.⠀
