A few weeks ago i found myself in the Victoria area (to attend an event in preparation for the now postponed #mipim2020 ) and as i walked between the beautiful St James' tube station and the venue, i walked pass this development which made me forget i was in London.⠀
⠀
Beautifully detailed and considered in terms of proportions, i thought i should take some photos to research on my way back home.... (note: i am of the opinion that architecture must be experienced in order to fully understand it and this is an example since having seen images in the press, i completely forgot them as i walked between the various areas)⠀
⠀
These two buildings are part of Buckingham Green, a mixed used development by London & Oriental who are so proud of its detailing that (in fact) make mention of it on their website (This i highlight because, in my experience, it is highly unusual in London's property market) ⠀
⠀
Designed by Fletcher Priest Architects and built by BAM , it was awarded (unsurprisingly) the London RIBA award, the development -which is within a conservation area- also refurbished the 1970s Mies van der Rohe inspired tower with a new black anodised glazing and steel envelope .⠀
⠀
If you are around, do pop by and have a look at a good example of contemporary architecture which is not pastiche and fully respects its historical context. ⠀
⠀
Then visit The Albert, the wonderful Grade 2 listed pub adjacent to it which was built in 1867 and has many beautiful architectural details to keep you busy while sipping your drink of choice (alcoholic or non)⠀
