Maldon, Essex

May 23, 2021 0 comments

A fortnight ago I wrote a post where I expressed my views on how problematic I think media's focus on travelling abroad is and why.

As I mentioned there, I have been lucky enough to travel around the country (the UK, that is) over the years and have found wonderful places that would make a great holiday destination and a great day out , depending on where you are based.

I have gone through my folders and curated some images and I will be using this platform to highlight them on Sundays.

I would like to start with Maldon, Essex, a place known around the world for its salt flakes.

These images are from a escape we made on the way back from West Mersea Island (will do a separate post) last summer.

It was in September, just before that lockdown that was followed by months of heavy restrictions and a Christmas cancellation... And it served me to forage sloe berries at the right time.

The images show the beautiful Heybridge basin, and surroundings and there is a lot more you can do in Maldon and surroundings ... I noticed you can even visit a local winery.

Walking along the water filled me with a sense of peace and a that feeling of vacation when time seems to stretch. This is why it is the first place I want to recommend for a British holiday.

More to come.

Meanwhile, do you have a recommendation for me? A place where you have been and think we should go?

(Please note after years on not using it, we gave up our car, also last September and hence bike friendly trains or even buses are the preferred methods of transport.)
