Did you know that despite having been designed by Sir Gilbert Scott (architect of Battersea power station, Liverpool cathedral and Cambridge university library), the original iconic red telephone box ( K2).owes its distinctive design to the architectural genius of Sir John Soane?
Its shallow-domed roof, a hallmark of Soane's style, can be traced back to his designs for the Soane family tomb pictured (in Saint Pancrass Gardens) and the top of the mausoleum in the Dulwich Picture Gallery for example.
The museum has an article titled "Sir John Soane and the red telephone box" where you will find some beautiful drawings.
