Circularity

During the autumn school term, we have been encouraging students to embed Circular Economy principles in their designs and they have come up with some fantastic ideas.

Circularity is an approach that does not rely on new/raw materials and can help us manage the resources we have more efficiently. Some countries are better at it than others and some are super creative.

Here is a beautiful facade my father in law spotted during a walk we took earlier in the year. The owners reahapped the facade through a mosaic using broken ceramic pieces that they laid beautifully in a pattern.

It is not a new building but the care and attention behind the mosaic detail made it charming and we loved it.

I personally have always been a bit of an upscaler and find using materials that would be discarded for other purposes very inspiring but in the past few years there has been a clear resurgence for upscaling in the context of design and it would appear that I am not alone 😊

How about you? What are your thoughts about upscaling
