Materials, do we need so many?

 

Sometimes when designing we assume that we need to use many materials to create a space when in reality, the places we create will serve as backdrops to someone else's life and that tends to take over.

Ps. For anyone who does not know, this is a staircase at the extension building of Tate modern . Speaking of which.... So glad the original design for the extension did not go ahead.
