Earlier in the week, I had a project meeting at the British Library, and on my way there I caught a glimpse of the Skip Garden through one of the site viewers.
These small openings are often found on construction hoardings, offering locals a window into the works taking place beyond. Positioned in areas where something new or transformative is unfolding, they give passersby a sense of connection to the process.
At the Skip Garden, these viewers, placed at different heights, activate the mural wall that conceals the allotment area. They invite visual access and spark curiosity, encouraging local engagement with what lies behind.
It may only be a temporary installation, but such uses of land can be remarkably transformative, especially when they bring learning and community opportunities into the heart of the city.
