Keeping up with the Christmas spirit

Did you notice how TV news sounded differently in the days leading up to Christmas?

The tone seemed to shift from constant criticism to highlighting examples of people trying to make a positive mark. Stories also came from a wider range of places than usual. It almost felt as if someone, somewhere, remembered that human beings need hope.

Perhaps it was simply the Christmas season but this year, it felt like a small recognition that the tone matters. A sign of the growing awareness of how deeply media influences our shared mood and how many people are exhausted, anxious, and longing for something constructive.

History reminds us that when societies feel under strain, frustration can easily turn sideways, often towards whoever happens to be nearby, while the underlying issues remain unresolved.

2025 has been a challenging year. Our industry has struggled, many businesses have closed, and AI’s rapid evolution keeps pushing us to reconsider what we truly value and need.

And hence, at this turning point, a gentle reminder:

----We are interconnected. What affects one of us inevitably touches the rest.
---- Our everyday choices help shape the world we live in now and the one future generations will inherit.
---- News and social media can be powerful, but they don’t represent the whole picture. Outrage often travels faster than truth, and algorithms can reward anger rather than understanding.

So here’s my invitation:

Let's
---- Stay mindful of our own actions.
---- Meet challenges with open eyes rather than borrowed outrage.
---- Base our views on evidence, not noise.

And above all, let’s treat one another with respect, remembering the shared human value we each bring.

“Divide and conquer” is one of history’s oldest strategies. Recognising it for what it is and refusing to play into it might just be one of our route to progress.

May 2026 be gentler, fairer, and more hopeful for everyone.

Ps. The murals are part of a lovely campaign I spotted called "This Is a Love Protest "
