Although the UK chooses to only celebrate one of the 12 days of Christmas, in Spain, Christmas has in fact 14 days.
It starts on Christmas eve and ends on the 6th of January, i.e. the epiphany.
And on the 12th day of the song you don't get drummers drumming but a fantastic three kings /wise men ( in the Anglo culture) parade where adults and children alike take over the streets to shout out the gifts they want their favourite king to bring to them on that night...while trying to catch (and avoid injury from the impact of) the hard sweets thrown to the crowd.
It is a celebration in most cities and towns, and this year, I was able to see it after quite a few years missing it.
Many things have changed but the energy of those who attend remains.
