WICE Summit Discussion advance: Claiming the strategic seat at the table

Apr 21, 2026 0 comments

There is a quiet, honest conversation happening beneath the surface of our industry about what we are actually being asked to give up when we are pushed into implementing its digitalisation.

At the Women In Construction & Engineering Awards Forum on Thursday, I will sit down with Ayo Abbas to talk about the things that don't usually make it into the digital discussions:

- What happens to the industry when the most experienced professionals, the ones with the "building know-how," decide this digital future is not built for them and simply opt out?

- Can women practitioners afford to have technologists rebuild a system based on the current one?

- Is every "advancement" actually an improvement, or are those hoping to step back to basic principles (while the world rushes forward) right?

- Should each of us become the custodians of our industry's heritage by mastering our craft at the exact moment it is most at risk of being taken over by automation?

There is no denying that future of the built environment is currently being written by the people who decide to stay in the room. Ayo and I plan to take the audience through scenarios one should consider before deciding whether to stay or leave that room.

I cannot wait!
