As an architect, I am always aware of the impact that our surroundings have on the way we live. Both the built form and the natural ones do inform, as they should, the way we live.
I am not alone in this . Environmental, political and social concerns keep reemerging in different forms through mankind’s history and when this happens, they focus our minds .
This autumn, London at least, will see those thoughts appear in the art scene on a variety of exhibitions which are well worth visiting:
In a few days “Constructing worlds” will open its doors at the Barbican, where by architecture will be explored as the backdrop of our lives.
From the 4th of October, Anise Gallery will show “Contemplative nature” a thoughtful exploration of humanity and our interaction with the world in the hands of Japanese artists Shigetomo and Setsuko Suzuki.
And from this week, Flowers showcases the apocalyptic images of Nadav Kander’s latest work “Dust“.
Architects or not, they present us with an opportunity to evaluate the footprint that we want to leave behind in the world .
