Something i have enjoyed seen in Japan over the years is the adaptation of the traditional forms and visual languages to contemporary contexts.
From interiors to packaging, there has always been an element of authenticity i miss outside Japan when others attempt to capture it.
In Japan, the latest tech is used to serve tradition and small familiar objects to provide warmth in the otherwise rather shiny context of their cities.
I find light is one of the tools they use most. Here you can see an example of it being used as a way to cleverly adapt the scale to one the human eye can cope with and that feels comfortable but there are many others.
After all these years, I find this could be a necessary mechanism to cope with the rapid change of the cities.
In the past twelve years I have seen a lot of new buildings emerged in lieu of "old ones" and infrastructure expand to such a scale that some stations are literally unrecognisable.
During this trip, on several locations, I became very aware that my next visit will be to a different place with the same name .
