Yesterday we saw quite a bit of sun (more than we've seen so so far this month anyway) and I hope the sun will continue to show up moving forward because as much as I understand nature needs rain , we've had a bit too much of it in London. And so, with the hope of potential dry weather ahead I wanted to let you know about #WanderArt , an art trail across both Mayfair and Belgravia which is rather lovely . (Visit their site where there is a map)
The images on this post are from Grosvenor Square where artist @moragmysercough prompts us to be more mindful. Mindful of your surroundings, of the use of resources and the impact we are having in nature. This initiative combines two things I love. Public art and temporary installations. I love public art and the impact it has in its surroundings.
As much as I love being part of the built environment, it is often much too serious and needs a bit of Joie de vivre I love temporary installations because they provide the built environment with the dynamism and engagement which makes us stop and listen. By introducing a temporary element to a permanent context, we reinvent it and reinterpret it...which is something I love. These tools are very powerful and if used properly can bring life to our cities (and the high street) in the way we need to.
Those who know me will have heard me say that "coffee culture" is not about bringing the single use cup coffee chain to a high street near you but by providing outdoor sitting opportunity for people to sit down to enjoy a sip of coffee from appropriate crockery. We need to start making our cities more interactive. To turn our streets in places rather than routes. And to create points of interest for those who live in the city , not only for those who visit it. (And I am not thinking about London only)
Cities are brilliant and given that they will continue to grow, we should embrace every opportunity to make them more liveable
