As the weather gets colder, cycling can become challenging in London and the tube unavoidable.
It is in those days, as one tries to pay less attention to the many people pushing their way through and look around appreciate the many interiors to be found in the various stations.
Looking at this picture, of a rather uninspiring area, one could easily forget that the network is a live organism continuously adapting to the needs of the city.
Lines like the Jubilee and the Elizabeth line showed how architecture can support infrastructure to create an overall better experience for visitors throughout. Others have undergone more ad-hoc refurbishment as a balancing act to keep the city going while making the system fit for purpose for a wider range of people.
I personally admire the capacity that the industry (in the UK but also beyond) has to keep delivering such a complex level of projects.
Regardless, having an under/overground network that is not only embraced and used by everyone but it keeps improving it's accessibility is one of the things that I think we often take for granted and we should not.
