Sometimes, on my way home, I pop into the British Museum to attend an exhibition (there have been many interesting ones over the years) or enjoy its architecture. (After all, is a fantastic building and has become a great public square)

Sometimes I even walk into one of the many rooms full of someone else's culture... And each time the same question comes to mind: with current technological capacity, do museums need to keep physical possession of contested or stolen artefacts, or can replicas and virtual exhibitions provide alternative means of sharing cultural heritage?

I am not trying to be controversial.

Let's be honest, it is not like we can touch the displays or experience them as they once were without their context (a little paragraph on a sticker is not context) . We miss a lot from the experience by having them isolated , at eye level, or behind a glass among objects that would have never sat side by side.

So... What could the future look like if we made the most of the digital capacities that already exist? (For clarity, I don't mean eBay... )
