Are you aware that Tom Dixon’s London HQ sits inside a restored Victorian Coal Office, a former coal and goods warehouse running along the Regent’s Canal at King’s Cross, just by Coal Drops Yard?
In the mid‑19th century, trains brought coal from northern England into long brick viaducts, where wagons ran on elevated tracks and “dropped” coal into waiting bays below. From there, it was loaded onto narrowboats on the Regent’s Canal and into horse‑drawn carts to be distributed across London to homes and businesses that depended on it for heating and lighting.
I really like this structure and I have to admit that each time I cross the red bridge I feel compelled to look at it .
